Morality, or the socially acceptable system of conduct and ethics, is not a simple case of right or wrong. Different societies and ages have their own differing criteria for acceptability, and in general, humans adapt their conduct to match that of their peers. Knowing that doing this is beneficial, however, is something that most children are taught at an early stage, either explicitly by their parents or by observing how others behave, as part of their upbringing.
